Stitching

You have the option to have the outer cover be stitched to the inner liner.  This stitching around the outer edge of the Bible cover adds both beauty and strength to your Bible.

Ribs

In the early history of bookbinding, craftsmen would reinforce the pages of the book (known as "text blocks") by attaching something strong, such as thick pieces of leather, across the spine of the book, typically by sewing.  When the book was covered, these pieces of leather would be noticeable as raised bands, and they came to be known as ribs.  By the time of the late 19th and early 20th century, ribs had become an ornate part of a book cover's decoration.  Even though bookbinding techniques no longer used thick leather bands, the presence of ribs became synonymous with quality bookbinding.

You have the option of adding ribs to your Bible.  To add ribs, we use narrow pieces of leather to simulate the raised-band bookbinding techniques used in past times.

Yapp

In 1860, British book binder William Yapp introduced a binding technique for pocket Bibles that would protect the Bible's pages better than the standard book covers at the time.  This technique, where the cover of the Bible wraps around the page edges, became known as a cover's yapp.

We offer three options for yapp:

1) No yapp - this is what is typical on most books.  The cover extends beyond the edge of the text block by a small amount but does not wrap around the page edges.

2) Partial (also known as semi) yapp - this is what is pictured.  The cover extends beyond the text block, wrapping around the page edges.

3) Full yapp - think of a zippered cover.  The cover extends to the point where the front and back covers touch or even overlap, but without the zipper.

Ribbons

We offer a wide variety of ribbon colors for our Bibles.  Depending on the type of Bible you purchase, you have the option to add up to 5 ribbons to your custom cover.

Spine and Cover Stamping

When it comes to stamping text on a cover, everyone has their own specific ideas.  We include both script and standard block stamping in a variety of colors, such as the ever-popular gold and silver, black, red, white, and even copper, just to name a few!  We can also perform a "naked stamp" like what is pictured, where we impress the text into the cover without using a colored foil of any kind.

End Sheets

End sheets, or end papers (as some people call them), are papers attached to the front and back of the Bible.  These sheets can both be attached to the inside of the covers and serve as the first and last pages of the Bile, as shown in the brown rugged leather Bible picture and the blue cross design Bible picture.  In these cases, the end sheet helps to further strengthen the overall cover.

In other cases, such as with our pebble grain finish, end sheets are just attached as the first and last pages of the Bible, as the red end sheet shows.  All of our end sheets are made from high-quality, heavy duty paper and are available in multiple colors.
