Amplified Bible

The Amplified Bible (AMP) is a unique English translation that was first published in 1965 by The Lockman Foundation, the same organization responsible for the New American Standard Bible.

This translation is based on a “literal with amplification” approach.  Its goal is to make the meaning of the original Hebrew, Aramic, and Greek words more accessible to modern readers by:

  • Including synonyms, clarifying phrases, or expanded meanings directly in the text.
  • Using brackets [ ] and parentheses ( ) to show possible nuances of meaning.
  • Avoiding paraphrase – it stays close to the original wording while helping readers grasp shades of meaning that might otherwise require consulting a concordance or lexicon.

The Bible editions and designs listed below are all available in the Amplified Bible translation.
