Christian Standard Bible (CSB)
The Christian Standard Bible, published by Holman Bible Publishers, was first released in 2017 as an updated and improved revision of the earlier Holman Christian Standard Bible from 2004.
This translation uses an “optimal equivalence” approach. It balances formal equivalence (word-for-word accuracy) with dynamic equivalence (thought-for-thought readability). This means it tries to stay close to the original Greek and Hebrew text while still being natural and clear in modern English. The translation is written at about a 7th grade reading level, making it accessible without oversimplifying. It is known for clarity, the use of modern language, and faithfulness to the original texts.
